Beneath The Makeup-12 Lessons to Empower and Inspire You!
A beauty book without perfect models…Finally!
There are so many beauty books out there by makeup artists and other beauty influencers. Most of the books I researched had very little new information regarding makeup application, especially, for the seasoned makeup artist. Regarding me, I’m not just someone who is obsessed with makeup and makes videos in my bedroom. I’m a seasoned professional with print, film, commercial, fashion and beauty editorial experience. Being a television makeup artist is my full time occupation. Oddly, the number one request my clients request from me is help with a basic everyday makeup. They are busy women who just don’t have the time to expertly apply complex makeup techniques using a mountain of tools and products.
“I wrote my book for women who truly want to learn more and for those who know very little and feel totally overwhelmed. I want to help all of the women who have never really learned how to apply their makeup”.
The unique difference
My goal is to inspire and empower women with their beauty routines. It is not to overburden them with multiple brushes, tools, products and palettes. Everyone likes to do their own makeup very quickly, hit it and quit it! Searching through the few beauty books I own all I see is how perfect the girls look. All of them are young attractive models photographed beautifully. Let’s face it, it’s not that difficult to make a twenty-something model or actress look better while using bronzer, lashes and foundation. They look amazing to begin with! Unfortunately, women are comparing themselves to the images they see in these books. They see perfect models so how could they not compare themselves? Even worse, they don’t even see versions of themselves.
The inspiration for the book
With this in mind, when I thought about writing my own book, ‘Beneath the Makeup – 12 Lessons to Empower and Inspire you!’ I was clear on what I didn’t want to do. My beauty book will be different. For instance, the book will give quality information and direction. It will provide options on proper tools and techniques. In addition, the book avoids using models, but instead, will have beautiful illustrations. Illustrations that convey a feeling of inspiration for the reader. Most importantly, the book will include my professional guidance. It will provide links, inside the pages and chapters, that will take you to video tutorials. You will watch me apply makeup to various women with beautiful skin tones from a variety of ethnicity and age!
A collaborative vision
On Instagram.com I found the precious artwork of Daria DiCieli. The colors, energy and feminine allure of her work is what makes her unique. She has created advertising campaigns for clients like Conde Nast, Elle, Hallmark and Cosmopolitan. She understood my vision and wanted to design the brand imaging for my book, Beneath the Makeup- 12 Lessons to Empower and Inspire you!
Daria has helped me stay true to what makes me unique. In a world of beauty experts and makeup artists Daria had special words of encouragement. “I am so happy that we decided to work together.”, she says, “You are Magical and if you can dream it, you can have it”. My hope is that when people read this book and see the beautiful illustrations, they too, will be inspired. Feeling Limitless is my new mantra. Thank you Daria!
