I still remember the days when the colors for basic makeup like lipstick, foundation and pressed powder failed to complement darker skin tones. Even light skin formulas were either pink or beige! My own Latina skin which has a yellow undertone needed adjusting. Today we have many brands that cater to all shades but we still have more work to do in all areas of beauty regarding inclusivity and representation. The simple fact that black shoppers spent approximately $6.6 billion on beauty products in 2021 — that’s about 11% of total beauty spending in the U.S alone, clearly demonstrates the desire for more options. Must Have Products
The price range on beauty products can be staggering and with so many brands it's no wonder we end up wasting money at the makeup counters. My clients trust me because of my experience. I also have tried everything.literally, and the following recommendeations are the best that i've found.
Loose powder only if setting makeup..and it's not that necessary anymore..besdes the only place you need powder is in your T zone. The PUR mineral pressed powder comes in excellent shades for all skintones and it's flawless.

Have you ever worn makeup only to have it disappear mid day? What is the point of spending the time only to wind up absorbing it? That is why I use primer. When I work on set, this Fenty Beauty primer is my favorite because it also helps to control shine.

We have to do touch ups on set quite a lot. Adding face powder constantly begins to add texture and often oxidizes and gets darker. This product is a must have and I re order it often because it’s that good. Mehron Makeup Touch up Anti-shine
Eyeshadow base is something I never skip. If you use concealer it may contain oils and crease your shadow. That is why on set I use Elizabeth Mott Thank me later eyebase. It’s just perfect in maing shadow water resistant and intense.
Makeup sponges are how I apply almost everything and they are great at cleaning up under the eyes too when I do dramatic makeup. Wet with water and squeeeze out the excess first.
It’s embarassing to admit that I spend this much on my own personal concealer. But I really care a lot about the delicate skin around my eyes. It’s just the best I’ve ever used.
But if you are on a budget and still want a great concealer, ELF cosmetics makes this one, great on men too, it’s lightweight and super pigmented.
Why is foundation important? Think of it as a barrier that protects your skin. It evens out the tone and improves skin texture. Makeup offers other benefits like SPF, anti aging properties and other healthy ingredients.
The best bronzer I have ever used and that is saying a lot. I literally look sunkissed and have that instant “GLOW” that I wasn’t born with.
MAC blush is still one of my go to products and the color “Raizin” is especially great on women of color. Smile and blend upwards from center of cheek to temples.
Don’t let the over the counter brands fool you. This one is one of the best, super inexpensive and you cannot beat the color range.
Eyes are the windows to the soul
That’s what they say. I like to think of them like gems. We want them to sparkle a little. Eye makeup doesn’t have to be glamourous. But wearing makeup can define and accentuate them in an instant. Use lash serums and lash curlers before mascara if you don’t want to use ahesive lashes or extensions. Below are my best picks.
Your eyelashes can look amazing with the right tools. This bundle has literally everything you need to curl, separate and smooth before applying pigments.
Your eyelashes are made of protein just like the hair on your head so you should take care of them if you want them to be full and lush all year round. This serum is excellent and a must if you are getting lash extensions done to protect and rebuild as your lash falls away and regrows.
So many makeup artists use this formula! I use this along with the primer first for added fullness. If you have fine short lashes you should try this combo.

Gel liner comes in so many colors and INGLOT is the most opaque and long lasting. Will need to use makeup remover for this one but Oooh love the cat liner look and staying power!
Liquid liner takes more skill to apply and it's wet on the skin so it has to dry well. Use it last after all your shadow is already on, or with just a hint of eyeshadow base or shimmer.
The flat liner brush is my secret weapon. I use it for dry and wet liner, underneath the lash line in navy to make eyes look whiter, and in the brows to emulate each individual hair stroke. Genius!
With so many options on Amazon for false lashes, I can just use Ardel # 110. It’s an industry fave for super natural looking lashes and you can double the set for more intensity= drama!
I hated wearing lashes because my eyes would tear up so much. But this lash glue is latex free, deep black pigment, and does NOT irritate!!!
Deep dark black eyeliner that I love in the water line and smudged for a smoky effect. Use a synthetic brush to blend it or press black shadow to buff it for long wear and less run.

Makeup brushes are an important part of an expert application and the Sigma line is basic and effective.
Clean your makeup brushes with Cinema Secrets, they will be disinfected and smell amazing too!
The Soft Glam Anastasia palette is my personal favorite.
Great shades and so versatile going from gym to work to date night. I use every single color in this palette.
Brow powder comes in so many shades and the Anastasia line is excellent. Trust a professional with the shape and don't go so thin! Fuller brows are more youthful.
These Anastasia brow pencils come with a wand at the end are are great for brushing and feathering pigment between the brow hairs.
Hydrate
The very first step to a long lasting pout. Burt's Bees is my favorite and these flavors so absolutely luscious!
Pigment
Matte lipgloss goes on smooth with a dry long wearing finish. I add a tiny bit of clear gloss for shine if needed.
Define
All the lip pencils in the world are made in the same factory in Germany. Don't waste money for one lip pencil color at a time. Get the set!

Cleansing should remove all impurities and makeup. I absolutely love the Fresh Soy cleanser. Toner is sprayed in a mist and helps realign skin PH and acts as a conduit to allow your moisturizer to penetrate smoothly.
The Everyday Hero is made up of Aloe and is super lightweight and refreshing without any heaviness under makeup.
Over the counter brands are just as good as presitge dept store products.
These are all easy, gentle and effective when I'm working on set where I do not have a lot of time and I need results fast.
